Amgen has entered into an agreement for an exclusive licence to develop and commercialise Kyowa Hakko Kogyo’s humanised monoclonal antibody KW-0761 worldwide, except in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. Amgen will pay US$100 M upfront and up to US$420 M in additional payments, including development, approval and sales milestones.

Genmab has entered into an agreement to acquire PDL BioPharma’s antibody manufacturing facility located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, for US$240 M in cash. Genmab expects that the Minnesota facility, which has a production capacity of 22,000 litres, will be sufficient to provide a sustainable source of both clinical- and commercial-scale antibody products for its pipeline.

Pfizer has entered into an agreement to acquire Encysive Pharmaceuticals for US$2.35 per share, representing an equity value of approximately US$195 M. Pfizer will acquire the rights to Thelin® (sitaxsentan sodium), an endothelin A receptor antagonist for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, as well as Encysive’s other pipeline candidates.
